Why do I have cracks in my concrete slab?

In our conventional style of construction, the interior concrete slab is a floating, un-reinforced slab. No rebar or wire mesh is utilized. Sometimes typical control joints appear to be jagged, while other fractures appear from shrinkage or soil movement under the slab. The soil in the Phoenix Metro Area is clay-based and expansive in nature. Hydrated soils will cause our slabs to heave. This movement will occur at the weakest link and result in fractures.
